About Bullington Center

MISSION: To educate and inspire children and adults in horticulture, the natural sciences, and integrated disciplines; to provide hands-on learning opportunities for members of our community.

The Bullington Center is a 12-acre public garden with an amphitheater, greenhouse, and 2000 foot nature trail. Graced with unusual and gorgeous plants, the center uses its unique natural setting to provide hands-on education and vocational training to students, youth clubs and adults.  The grounds are existing gardens include a butterfly garden, shade garden and an herb garden with fragrant and dye, medicinal, and biblical herbs. The master plan includes development of additional gardens, including a therapy garden, and a children's garden. A classroom / multipurpose room, furnished with audio-visual equipment is available for use by local business groups, clubs, and other community groups from 35 - 50. The facility has its own entrance and kitchen privileges are available for business meeting or retreats, banquets, weddings or other special events. The beautiful grounds are an ideal venue for weddings, family gatherings, or other special event.

Bullington Center hosts field trips, classes and workshops. Class topics of elementary students include plant math, seed education, and plant-insect interaction for elementary students. At local schools, students grow gardens and investigate plants. The center also has weather instruments, grow lights, and compost bins that can be used for class experiments and projects. Also, 4-H youth raise pumpkins, and the Boys and Girls Club grows a summer vegetable garden at Bullington. Adult workshops cover such topics as wildflower identification, plant propagation, pruning, and basic gardening.

Program/Site Features: Programs offered to school groups on plants and the environment. Workshops offered to adults on general horticulture, wildflower identification, etc.

Unique Site Features: Unusual cultivated plants from Asia. Native azaleas, meadows, and nature trail through mixed forest and rhododendron thicket, partially along a stream.
